You’re Doing OK, Mom

By Stephanie Jankowski 11 Comments

Did you bottle or breast feed?
Did you sleep train or go with the nighttime flow?
Did you adopt the helicopter or free-range parenting style, or somewhere in between?

Whatever your answers, you’re doing OK, Mom.

Do you buckle under the self-inflicted weight of Mom Guilt?
Do you occasionally raise your voice?
Do you ever second-guess yourself as a parent?

Yes or no, it doesn’t matter. You’re doing OK, Mom.

Have you ever wanted to give your children more?
Have you ever wanted to give your children less?
Have you ever lay awake at night, wishing you had a friggin’ clue?

We’ve all been there. You’re doing OK, Mom.

I was so sure I was having a girl when pregnant with my first. When the doctor announced, “It’s a boy!”, it took a minute for it to register. And by a minute, I mean about two weeks. I was at the grocery store with my newborn and when someone asked me his name, I couldn’t remember. Awesome.

At one of the many 2 am feedings and changings  with my daughter, I forgot to put the clean diaper underneath before changing the dirty one. Three seconds and one huge sneeze later, and she had sprayed the wall of her nursery with poo. Score.

None of us are perfect; none of us should pretend to be. We all have our “moments,” and hopefully laugh about them in retrospect. It takes a village, sometimes a box of wine, and the acknowledgement that despite what we may believe about ourselves, we are all doing the very best with what we have. Would a few extra dollars help? Sure. Better health care? Absolutely. A safe, supportive community? Hecks yeah. Unfortunately, not all of us have access to these things.

That’s where JOHNSON’S® comes in:

Baby CARES, the JOHNSON’S® Baby brand’s charitable platform, is committed to ensuring that every baby has a healthy and happy start through educational and social initiatives, product donations, and financial support. What can you do to help? Just watch this one minute video between now and Mother’s Day, and JOHNSON’S® Baby will donate $1 to Save the Children®, an organization that gives children around the world a healthy start, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm.

Listen: just by watching this video (that made me bawl, of course), we can raise up to $50,000 for children in need. Please watch.

As a mom of a 3 year old. I question everything every day.
Some days I don’t feel like I’m doing anything right but this helped me know that I am.
And $1 for a child in need. I must be doing something right.
