When Hannah, my editor at We Are Teachers, asked if I’d be interested in writing a funny piece about how we teacher-parents have the potential to be our kids’ teachers’ worst nightmare, I laughed aloud at my computer. How could I possibly relate to obsessing over my kids’ grades or being in constant communication with their teachers? It’s not like I’ve ever made suggestions about how to best “hone my son’s math skills.” What?! ME?!
Yes. Me.
So I wrote a short tongue-in-cheek article about how I’m a mother/teacher with good intentions but isn’t afraid to be all up in the business because I’m a teacher, too, so I know stuff and am just trying to help God save me from myself!! I’d be embarrassed if I thought I was the only one, but I see you. Yes, you. You’re avoiding eye contact because you recognize yourself in what I said. It’s okay! I’m not judging! Just join me in making this pact: we’ll behave for the rest of the year. Probably.
