I was sitting on the bleachers at the upper field while he threw pre-game batting practice on the lower field. I didn’t see it happen; I felt it happen. It was like something in the air changed; my stomach told me to turn around, and so I did. At that very moment, a familiar parent was running toward me, frantically waving his hands, motioning for me to abandon my spot and follow him. As we rushed down the gentle slope of the hill, I saw the crowd of players huddled around their coach, my fiancé.
The blood was everywhere. There was so much I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. A nurse I am not, so I said curse words and made grotesque faces as I fought the urge to cry for fear of scaring him even more. I barely remember getting in the car, but we were en route to the hospital in no time. That’s when I found out what had happened.
One of the players hit the ball, it ricocheted off of the fence post, and smashed my fiancé in the eye.
Would he be blind? Was his eye hanging out of the socket underneath that bloodied rag? Would he look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame for our wedding?
The possibility of losing sight in the injured eye scared him into submission; he did exactly as he was told. Following surgery, weeks of extensive at-home care that required setting alarms at 2 and 6 in the morning to administer medicated eye drops, and months of restrictions that forbid him to pick up anything heavier than a gallon of milk and avoid holding his head in certain positions, my soon-to-be hubby started to heal. And he started to really appreciate being able to see out of both eyes, as one does when he’s *thisclose* to being blinded.
At the suggestion of his surgeon, my fiancé upgraded his contact solution because, like the lady in his life (that’s me, you guys), his eyes deserve the best. Professionals know Clear Care Plus is the best–that’s why it’s the #1 doctor recommended hydrogen peroxide solution. Triple Action Cleaning and those cute little bubbles that you can hear and see keep his lenses impeccably clean, which means my man’s eyes are impeccably clean. Did you know that even though protein does a body good, apparently it’s pretty bad for the eyes? Clear Care Plus uses those same bubbles to deep clean, disinfect, and remove pesky protein. And if a surgeon recommends it to a patient whose retina was dang near torn off, I’m thinking Clear Care Plus is the bomb diggity. Do cool kids still say that?
Anyway, we got married and yada yada yada, here we are. Which is lovely. Upgrading to Clear Care Plus has allowed my husband to continue to wear contact lenses, and we’re very grateful for that.
