When we brought baby #2 home in May of 2011, there were a bunch of strange men waiting for us at the house. Guess it’s relevant to note that my husband had hired them to begin digging for a swimming pool. I never would’ve guessed my husband, who hates the water, would want to be responsible for maintaining and ensuring necessary security measures of a swimming pool, yet there we were:
newborn, two-year-old, pool.
As the years wore on and our kids grew, that swimming pool became a staple in our summer family fun. Friends visited, we hosted pool parties, I enjoyed the rare quiet afternoon floating on a giant unicorn raft with a cold beverage in hand.
We became the house my husband had envisioned when he shelled out for that pool: we were the place all the kids wanted to play. That had always been his goal, to keep our kids and their friends close. Even today, more than eight years later, we still have a pool/yard/house full of kids and we love it.
Except it’s a lot of responsibility, ya know? Kids aren’t the greatest when it comes to making smart decisions. They’re essentially hard-wired for short-term thought and instant gratification which is a frustrating combination, not to mention a potentially dangerous one. And that pool?
It’s a magnet for dumb decisions.
Kids playing in the dirt see it as a quick bath. Footballs and baseballs always get tossed onto the cover. Hiding beneath the water under a stack of rafts is an incredibly appealing spot during a cut-throat game of hide-and-seek.
I could go on, but I’m giving myself heart palpitations. All you need to know:
Kids + swimming pool = necessary security measures
We needed to increase efforts to keep everyone safe, especially that one kid who has been telling everyone he can “walk on water like Jesus.” Pray for us. Anyway, I suggested several German Shepherd dogs to guard the perimeter of the pool. The husband was a little more reasonable and installed the Guardline Outdoor Motion Alert System.
Guardline Security is an American-based small business started by five passionate guys who saw a need for an affordable motion alert. They’ve grown into the premier DIY home security solution and with more than 250,000 customers and experience that predates our pool installation by a decade, we knew we were getting ease of installation, quality product, and reliable service. And get this: if you call Guardline, know what happens?!
A HUMAN BEING ANSWERS THE PHONE!
I know, right? I’ll give you a minute to compose yourself. While you’re composing, here’s a pic of my fat head enjoying the fact that I did absolutely nothing to help close the pool this year. #Winning Also? Check out the orange caution cones on the deck behind me, courtesy of my husband. We are a classy, classy bunch.
Right then. Moving on…
For use detecting motion outside the home or business (think: on the front porch, surrounding the fire pit, protecting the grass you’re planting because you’re a lunatic like the man I married, etc.), Guardline is expandable up to 16 sensors, with over 30 tones including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I’m waiting for them to add a Beyoncé tone while husband is crossing his fingers for the Rolling Stones.
I’m grateful for the peace of mind Guardline is giving us as we winterize the pool this season. This is the first year I feel confident that no child will try to walk on water without my knowledge. Except maybe that one kid. Guardline is incredibly easy to install—literally took less than 30 minutes—and it’s a much more affordable option than some of the other outdoor motion sensors.
