*crawls out from underneath rock*
Oh, hey! It’s been a minute since I’ve shared anything on here, eh? Let’s catch up real quick before moving into the book stuff:
My last blog post was from April. Know what happens after April? May. You know how May goes…
June consisted of either me or my husband traveling out of the state for work, and when the month ended, so did my excitement for summer. Dear teachers, please take my children back immediately. Thank you.
Now we’re nearing the end of July and I’m finishing up my last two Masters classes, a project at work, and attempting to mentally prepare myself for an impending partial hysterectomy in August. More on that later. We also recently returned from a trip to the mountains where my children fought and whined and generally made the trip as miserable as possible. More on that later, too.
I bet your situation sounds similar: crazy busy, simultaneously mourning and celebrating the return of school, and maybe holding one too many irons in the fire. Guess I’m naive (dumb) because every year, I hold out hope that summer will be full of deliciously slow, lazy days like those of my childhood, and then I’m abruptly reminded by a budding 10-year-old’s attitude or a surly uterus that nothing about this life is slow or lazy any more.
Sigh.
Anyway, I do have exciting news about the book. Schooled has a tentative publication date of December 17th (just in time for holiday gifts, ahem!), the design team is doing their thang, and I’ll have a copy of the final manuscript in my sweaty little hands within the month. All that to say: this bad boy is happening!
In the meantime, I’m looking for endorsements to include in our marketing endeavors and, of course, the book itself. I’ve reached out to my contacts and am also putting out feelers with YOU in case you have connections you’d be willing to share. Obvious connections are people in the education space (like my pals at We Are Teachers), but we’re also considering anyone of relative prominence in the parenting, humor, or “girl power” spaces. My Reach List includes Michelle Obama, so if you know her, throw me an email, mmmkay?
But if you know anyone in those categories–or if you ARE someone in those categories…Mrs. Obama? Hello?!–let a gal know! I have a sample ARC (that’s publishing-speak for “advanced reader copy”) ready to roll and would love to share it with any possible endorsers. VERY excited about this part, mostly because the several rejections I’ve already received make for a nice ego check. HA.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! Here’s a sneak peek of the ARC’s Table of Contents and part of the intro just for kicks. I’m in love with so many of the essay titles–teehee!
